Last year, I decided to find power in the uncertainty of my circumstances during the COVID-19 global pandemic and embrace an unexpected opportunity to learn more about a new industry and myself via the Startmate Fellowship. The Fellowship is a largely self-directed program where each fellow creates their own unique experience within a foundational framework.
Broadly, the Startemate Fellowship seeks to actively create opportunities for women from a diversity of backgrounds and experiences to enter startups, whilst challenging the startup community to think differently about where their talent comes from.
The two-month, intensive program included ‘Ask Me Anything’ sessions with global operators, founders and investors, functional workshops, and networking opportunities within the startup ecosystem. We had unique access to phenomenal speakers, curated content and a support network which were all geared towards enabling accelerated career pivots, transitions into new roles and the forming of connection with others in the ecosystem.
The Fellowship is both a program and a process. You have to be prepared to do the emotional work (ie. sort through your emotional baggage, deal with imposter syndrome, etc.) and the mental work (ie. figuring our your next career move, connecting with others, etc.) to get the results you want.
I've summarised my personal learnings, insights and reflections in the interactive mind map below.
